Sala Golf enjoys sunny round of golf at Almenara in Sotogrande
It’s safe to say that the weather gods were smiling over the Sala Golfers once again last Saturday providing another superb round of golf at Almenara Golf Club in Sotogrande.
The golfers were delighted that the Marbella weather forecast was wrong for a change, with the rain holding off so they could enjoy the benefits of the newly renovated facility.
A warm welcome to Almenara was received with a delicious breakfast picnic to set them up for the day, conveniently served in their buggies before setting off onto the course.
Proud sponsors, International Marbella were back with their famous Gin & Tonic bar, on course quiz, and the even more famous sausage rolls! A huge thank you to Tine and Laura from International Marbella for helping La Sala to make this day so special, and for sponsoring the on course challenges and quiz for our golfers.
Another huge thank you goes to Vinomarket for sponsoring the Individual and Team prizes, supplying some of the best quality wine to be found on the coast.
Sala Golfers made their way back to La Sala Puerto Banus after some competitive golf, for free flowing food and drink, before the prize giving.
First to be announced was the on course challenges.
On the 16th was the closest to the pin on a Par 3, and won by regular Sala Golfer Ray Stokes, who managed to put his tee shot close, and took home a magnum of wine sponsored by International Marbella.
The 6th hole was the closest to the pin approach shot on a Par 4, where Aaron Kavanagh managed to drive the green, just onto the fringe, and chip on to just get inside of Kevin Murphy. Wow can he hit a ball!
The 8th is where we found the longest drive competition, with Terry Greenslade for the men smashing one up the middle, and for the ladies, Jeanette Oaks smoked her drive to victory, both of them winning a magnum of wine to take home.
Next was the Individual prizes.
The Individual Runner Up on the day was John Balague with 37 points overall. 1st place, with one of his best rounds in a long time, was Steve Richardson, scoring an impressive 38 points around the challenging course, and taking home La Sala vouchers and wine sponsored by Vinomarket.
Next to be announced was the team prizes.
In 3rd place was Prohibition, with an overall score of 76 for the team.
In 2nd place was Bon Vivant, scoring 77 points overall. Bon Vivant is a new team this year, and boy are they making an impression!
The winning team on the day was Team Toys, with a huge 87 points overall, and led to victory by Individual Winner Steve Richardson.
Congratulations to all of our winners!
Of course we could not forget the Wooden Spoon trophy, which was taken by John Oaks. We are sure John will be back next month to redeem himself!
After the prize giving, golfers bid against each other for some great prizes in the charity auction to raise funds for the Elena Gaite Foundation.
A huge thank you to all the Sala Golfers, Almenara Golf Club, The Elena Gaite Foundation and all of our dedicated sponsors for another incredible day of golf.
Our next event is at Mijas on the 16th April, and is €105 for members.
